I as I mentioned last time, I'm in DC on business. The last time I was here I stayed at a hotel in crystal city, which is right next to Reagan airport. While it was convenient, it was also expensive. This time I used hotwire to find a cheaper hotel in Silver Springs. I was pleasantly surprised by the area. The hotel(the Ramada limited) was in 1/2 mile of a metro stop, and in easy walking distance was a downtown shopping center, several local restaurants, and a movie theater. I discovered it as I was making my pilgrimage to Chick-fil-a, the god of all fast food places. Washington state has no chick-fil-a's so I make it a point visit one if I'm traveling in areas where they are. In the middle of the open retail area was an astro turf park, which didn't make much sense to me, but was heavily utilized by families with screaming children running around.
Mel came out to visit me and to visit her siblings and friends in the Baltimore area. Last night we went to a restaurant in Baltimore with a group of 10 other people. Today we spent some time looking around the Naval Academy with her brother and watching TV.
As for finance, my Zecco transfer came through, so I was able to pay my credit card bill before the due date. My rent check also came through a little earlier than expected, so it was good that I had all my expected debits covered. Also, my stock that I was "transferring" from Sharebuilder to Zecco went below my limit order price today, so the order went through. The purchase price was actually a few cents lower than my limit, so I was quite pleased with that. The net result is that i made $15 on the purchase, which covers the redemption price from share builder. Overall, I'm still down several hundred dollars on this stock because my cost basis is about $4 higher than my recent purchase price, but I still think my reason for buying the stock is valid.
Tomorrow I fly back to Seattle.
