This is the sixth week since "planting" and this week has seen several things happen with the garden. First off, I had to raise the lights up a notch on Friday. The plant on the left is growing the fastest, and it was pushing the limit. Incredibly, even after I raised the lights, today I found that the left plant was once again about an inch away from the light hood. I cut off the offending branch at the tip, so now there is a little more room. The 3 plants are starting to crowd each other so I've been taking aggressive snipping action to ensure each one has a personal bubble of space. The biggest problem with the Aerogarden is that the light source is really more of a point source to the plants. Just as indoor plants will lean toward the nearest window, Aerogarden plants angle themselves to best grab the artificial light. That means the poor plant in the middle will get crowded out if I don't look after it. Another indication of this habit is the lean of the outer plants. They both have branches that lean up and out at a 45 degree angle, which exactly mirrors the orientation of the grow light bulbs in the hood (straight on isn't the best view for seeing this). Also, since this is an even week I added more nutrient pellets. I've been keeping the water level fairly steady because there is less noise from water falling if the water level is high. When the water level is at the recommended height, the garden is very quiet.
