All I had to do today for work was take an exam, so after I finished this morning I came home to Mel and we spent most of the day cooking. For lunch there was BBQ pork chops prepared by Designed Dinners. Mel also made a stir fry vegetable medley to go with it which was excellent. This afternoon she made some rice crispy treats, which are delicious as expected. I was going to buy some premade ones from a name brand company, but she stopped me because of all the bad additives that get put in snack foods. She then offered to make them from scratch, so I couldn't refuse.
Also today, I had a hankering for some M&M cookies. There is a little snack bar at work that sells them in packs of 3, and if you get them just right they are the perfection of confectionery delights. They always sell quickly and cost $1.25 as well. I've been meaning to try my hand at making my own crazy delicious cookies for personal consumption for quite some time now. Maybe I should file this under "money savers" as well? Any way, while Mel was making rice krispy treats, I was making cookie dough.
I found a simple recipe online, and used my Kitchenaide to power through dried out brown sugar and thick shortening along with some other more pliable ingredients to make a smooth dough. Then I added some M&M's and dropped the dough onto a pan, where I artfully placed a few more M&M's on each cookie. Maybe next time I'll make faces or letters on the cookies. The verdict? Delectable.
